Presented here is the Peterbilt 357 tractor with East dump trailer in 1:50th scale from Sword Models.

The tractor features opening engine compartment revealing the detailed engine block and associated components. The cab interior is visible through the clear windows and opening side doors.

The rear view mirrors are supplied in the box and need fitting into the holes on the cab frame. There are also a number of holes on the cab roof to fit the chrome air
horns which are also supplied in the box.

The single exhaust stack is finely detailed and chrome fuel tanks are mounted on both sides of the chassis beneath the cab doors. The flexible rear mud flaps
carry the Peterbilt logo and there is a fully functional
fifth wheel.

The chassis has working suspension with authentic tyres fitted to the freely rotating wheel hubs. The front wheels are steerable and flexible rubber strips have been added to the front fenders.

The East dump trailer is connected to the tractor's fully functional fifth wheel and there are three small holes for the service coupling hoses. The trailer also has the hydraulic hose which would usually be fitted to the hydraulic tank for the tipping cylinder.

The top edge of the trailer has slots to fit the simulated wooden protection strips supplied in the box which are used on the real trailer to protect the top edge of the dump body.

The trailer has detailed service lines running the length of the chassis with working suspension and freely rotating wheels with authentic rubber tyres and flexible rubber mud guards. The tipping cylinder is stiff and the trailer can be positioned at any tipping angle required. Authentic East logo's and warning labels are visible on the trailer which gives added realism.

The fully working tarpaulin sheet can be unrolled from the housing and the side mounted arms pull the cover over the top of the body. The small thumb wheel is then used to roll the sheet back into the storage position. This is an excellent touch on the model and they have even added the lines that operate the winding motor.

The rear tailgate is exceptionally well detailed and features both top and side opening, depending on where the tipping pin is positioned. The small door in the centre of the tailgate can be opened by lifting the level, just like the real trailer. Once again, Sword Models have produced an exceptionally well detailed model.

There is an addon hydraulic tank accessory for the model, made by Turtle which replaces the plate behind the cab (as can be seen in the two pictures below) for those who want the total authenticity.

There are five versions of the model including two company coloured versions and three standard colour versions consisting of Red (Limited to 500), White (Limited to 500) and Grey (Limited to 500). The Blue Owen Trucking version and the Rick Kuntz company liveried version (reviewed here) are both limited to only 250 pieces. The model was released in August 2007.
